Cyber Illness
Internet addiction should be recognized as a clinical disorder, a psychiatrist claims.
Dr Jerald Block says there are four main telltale symptoms:
losing all track of time or neglecting to eat or sleep;
cravings and feelings of withdrawal including anger,
tension or depression when a computer cannot be accessed;
an increased need for better computer equipment and software;
arguments,
lying,
fatigue,
social isolation and poor achievement.
Block, of Oregon Health and Science University, made the claim in an editorial for the American Journal of Psychiatry.
Block claims to many hours spent online gaming, viewing porn or emailing can cause a compulsive-impulsive disorder.
Estimates of the prevalence of the disorder are lacking. Attempts to measure the phenomenon are clouded by shame, denial, and minimization.
Unfortunately, Internet addiction is resistant to treatment, entails significant risks and has high relapse rates.
A computer becomes a tremendous amount of time in their life. Then if you try to cut the cord in a very abrupt fashion, they’ve lost essentially their best friend. That can take the form of depression or rage, said Block.
British psychiatrists have previously reported that a “significant minority” – between 5 and 10 per cent of online users – are Internet addicts.
Anyway, Block didn’t mention about blogger. What do you think? Are we blogger addict? You know the answer for yourself. We know our limitations especially work at home mommies. We know also how to control if our children is into this so called “Internet addiction”. Too much is too bad.
kikay doc salamat sa buz..medyo bz si aj s paguwi..
this is true. majority of bloggers are i-addic na ..but at least, ours is w/ meaning and purpose..so ayos lang
Ohhh,, interesting study!
Yeah, I think a lot of bloggers are addicted, but not all.
Some have blogging as business so the line of having it as an addiction is very thin.
Just look at perezhilton.com … He blogs about 40 posts a day, but he's making tons of money off of it..
I think bloggers are know their limitation in terms of using the net. It could be the gamers they can't control and they want more time in the computer. I don't like to be an addict, I like a normal life…
C'est la vie
I once read in Korea that they have a bootie camp for web addicts.
This is so true. I suffered so many yeras for not having the proper hardware in my computer, and once i did i realized that this is an endless rollercoaster. You will never have enough. Then comes the fatigue from staying to much at the computer, and you get bored of the things you souldn't at your age. Computer and interent is bad, as long as you have no limit using them, and worst of all is when you became addicted to it.
